Saskatchewan bed and breakfast accommodation on the prairies
Saskatchewan is a province in Canada located in the heart of the Canadian Prairies. It is bordered by Manitoba to the east, Alberta to the west, the Northwest Territories to the north, and the states of North Dakota and Montana to the south. As befits a North American crossroads, Saskatchewan offers plenty of bed and breakfast accommodation, much of it in the province's largest city, Saskatoon. The provincial capital, Regina, is also replete with B&Bs, lodges and inns. The other major cities of Saskatchewan are Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Swift Current, and North Battleford.
The vast, treeless plains in the south are broken up by river valleys and ranges of low-lying hills but there are extensive forests in the north of the province. Many bed and breakfast tourists make sure they visit Saskatchewan's two national parks, Prince Albert National Park of Canada in the north and Grasslands National Park in the southwest. Together they cover nearly 5,000,000 acres. But for mellow and generally flatter landscapes you need to travel through thesouth to enjoy vistas of prairie and grasslands, badlands and river
valleys. Anyone who has seen the Saskatchewan prairies in summer will never forget the sight of fields of golden wheat, shimmering barley and vast areas of bright yellow canola flowers.
Saskatoon is built on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. It is a thriving city that has a worldwide reputation for holding great family-oriented festivals including Winterfest, Folkfest and The International Fringe Festival. If you are thinking of attending any of these festivals, make your Saskatchewan B&B, lodge and inn reservations in good time! Among the main attractions of Saskatoon are the Western Development Museum, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Forestry Farm Park, Mendel Art Gallery and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada. The provincial capital Regina was named in honor of Queen Victoria. The pride of Regina is the Wascana Center, a huge park containing the McKenzie Art Gallery and Saskatchewan Center of the Arts. The park also provides an apt setting for the Legislative Building, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the Kramer/IMAX Theater. There are several bed and breakfasts nearby. Regina is the home of
Canada’s only training academy for Royal Canadian Mounted Police (‘The Mounties’).
Bed and breakfast visitors find that traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway provides the best means of seeing the far south of the province. It connects the cities of Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Regina. You will find lovely B&B stays, lodges and inns in all these locations. You will learn from your B&B hosts that Moose Jaw, which was once a quiet trading post, was notorious during Prohibition in the 1920s. A tour of the Tunnels of Moose Jaw tours will provide a scintillating account of the town’s extraordinary history. There are many Saskatchewan bed and breakfast establishments near another popular Moose Jaw attraction, namely the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa and Resort.
