Quebec bed and breakfast for a genuine French experience

Montreal

Quebec or, in French, Québec, is a province in Canada that is officially recognized as “a nation within a united Canada" which is why you might find that your bed and breakfast hosts are French-speaking.  French is the official language of the province. Quebec is remarkably lovely and people are vibrant. It displays a wonderful mixture of culture, language, architecture and landscape, making Quebec a beautiful and interesting vacation destination. Quebec offers the greatest cuisine in Canada, wonderful shopping, terrific B&B stays, cozy lodges, fine country inns, wide, sandy beaches, and superb opportunities for a variety of activities ranging from winter sports and water sports to hiking. The province's three national parks, twenty-two nature parks and sixteen wildlife reserves are irresistible to outdoor enthusiasts. The abundant lakes and dozens of rivers offer great fishing opportunities. Many bed and breakfast tourists take advantage of the fishing.

The largest cities in Quebec are Montreal and Quebec City, both of which have hundreds of French-style bed and breakfast businesses. Beautiful Montreal is renowned for its nightlife and top-class restaurants. Quebec City, which is predominately French-speaking, is characterized by historic cobblestone streets and its unique culture. The year 2008 marked Quebec City’s 400th birthday. Thousands of visitors visit the city each year, and many stay in bed and breakfast establishments. The hub of the resort area of Quebec is Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, which is some 60 miles north of Montreal. Some of the best skiing in North America can be had here. Further north is the Mont-Tremblant Park, which is popular for boating, hunting and camping as well as winter sports. There are many B&B stays in the vicinity. Northwest of this is the La Verendrye Wildlife Reserve. Traveling north-east from Quebec along the southern bank of the St Lawrence, you first pass through the farming region of Bas-Saint-Laurent and from there move ahead to the Gaspé Peninsula. The major attractions here are the Rocher Percé in the Gaspé Provincial Park and Forillon National Park.

Across the mouth of the river is the Duplessis Peninsula, site of some of the earliest landfalls in the New World. Remains left by these Viking sailors can be seen in the museum at Sept-Iles, the largest city in the area. There is plenty of Quebec bed and breakfast accommodation available here. The extraordinary geological formations of the nearby Mingan Archipelago are best explored by boat.  The Magdalen Islands, 215km (134 miles) east of the Gaspé peninsula in the Gulf of St Lawrence, offer miles of white sandy beaches and a host of unspoiled fishing villages, many of them with peaceful B&B stays available.
