Northern Territory bed and breakfast stays in the heart of Australia
The Northern Territory is a territory of the Australian Commonwealth. Northern Territory bed and breakfast accommodation is available mainly in the three largest settlements - the capital city is Darwin and the two other well-known towns of the territory, Alice Springs deep in the desert interior, and Katherine, which is more to the north. The Northern Territory covers nearly 20% of Australia, but contains 1% of its inhabitants. The landscape includes red sand desert in the centre and rain forests in the south. The NT is a marvelous large and atmospheric area for B&B, lodge and inn tourists to explore; it is six times the size of the UK. Of course the Northern Territory has greatspiritual significance for the Aborigines, who still live there. Much of
the landscape was draped in dreamtime legend to ensure Aboriginal survival. There remains a raw mysticism to holy places such as Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Corroboree Rock. Kakadu National Park is full of Aboriginal relics.
Darwin, the subtropical capital, is a crucible of European, Asian and Aboriginal cultures. Its relaxed atmosphere and location make it a convenient base for touring the area. The Kakadu, Litchfield and Nitmiluk national parks are all nearby. During the Second World War, Darwin was heavily bombed and all but destroyed by the armies of Germany and her allies. Darwin is geographically closer to Jakarta than Sydney, and nearer to Singapore than Melbourne, which gives an idea of how culturally and geographically it from the great cities of southern Australia. Darwin has lots of lovely B&B, lodge and inn accommodation. Many Northern Territory bed and breakfast tourists visit the smaller
Alice Springs where the Royal Doctors Flying Service is based. The southern part of the NT is in fact centered on Alice Springs, which is almost the geographicalcenter of Australia and the starting point of many of the Red Center’s unique and natural wonders, including Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Other places in the Red Center that attract bed and breakfast tourists are King’s Canyon, Trephina, Ormiston and Glen Helen Gorge, the Olgas near Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Devil’s Marbles at Tennant Creek. The Northern Territory’s second largest city, Katherine, is emerging as a top-rate vacation destination, only a short drive from the tropical limestone Cutta Cutta Caves and the healing waters of the Mataranka Thermal Pools. Katherine bed and breakfast accommodation is plentiful.
