North Dakota bed and breakfast stays for a wild and wonderful vacation

North Dakota is a wild and wonderful state, an undiscovered rural gem, and there are comfortable North Dakota bed and breakfast establishments right across the state offering vacationers and other visitors a warm welcome. Many of these B&Bs are in the heart of agricultural country, as farms cover more than 90% of the land. North Dakota ranks first in the nation's production of spring and durum wheat. Other agricultural products from this fertile state include barley, rye, dry edible beans, hay, sunflowers, honey, flaxseed, oats, sugar beets, sheep, beef cattle and hogs. North Dakota is a state located in the Midwestern and Western regions of the US and it has a particularly small human population with not many more than half a million residents. North Dakota's charm lies in its quietness and its wide-open spaces. From the fertile Red River Valley in the east, where the wheat grows, to the vast plains and rolling hills, to the Missouri plateau and the notorious Badlands of the west, there is majesty and the smell of freedom in the air of North Dakota. Many times a vacationer will come across a North Dakota B&B lodge or inn in the most unlikely places.

They say in North Dakota: "Forty below keeps the riffraff out." There is an element of truth in that because the state has the lowest crime rate in the US.  Most people who do choose North Dakota for a vacation or an unusual breakaway are happy they did. North Dakota is rich in wildlife and known for its waterfowl, grouse, pheasant, and deer hunting and bass, trout, and pike fishing, Many North Dakota bed and breakfast establishments cater to hunters and fishermen. People who like to hunt animals with a camera are also catered for. North Dakota has twenty state parks and recreation areas. The creation of refuges and parks has kept the animal population strong, and travelers have plenty of good spots to view native species such as bison, bighorn sheep, mule deer and coyotes. The names of many North Dakota B&Bs reflect the wildlife heritage of the state.

Other places of interest visited by bed and breakfast vacationers include the International Peace Garden near Dunseith, Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site near Williston, Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in Stanton, the State Capitol at Bismarck (the capital city of North Dakota), the Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The state has played a large role in the history of westward expansion in North America. There are many historic sites and museums to give visitors a better understanding of how North Dakota and the country evolved. And with one of the largest Native American populations in the U.S., North Dakota also provides a good introduction to the past and present culture of Sioux tribes. On the trail of America's great legends in North Dakota such as Lewis and Clark, Sakakawea, George Custer, Sitting Bull and Theodore Roosevelt you will find yourself living out their adventures as so many North Dakota bed and breakfast customers have done before.
