New Brunswick, Canada
New Brunswick bed and breakfast stays for vacations with a difference
New Brunswick bed and breakfast visitors are aware that the province is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces because there are so many B&Bs with a view of the ocean. New Brunswick is the only constitutionally bilingual province (French and English) in the federation Canada. The capital of the province is Fredericton. The majority of the population is English-speaking; but with a large francophone minority (35%) most of whom are of Acadian origin. Acadia was the first permanent French colony in North America. The language is not related to Quebec French since Acadia's history is separate. Acadian French speakers are instantly recognizable by their charming, trilling language which may be heard spoken among the staff at your Manitoba lodge, inn or bed and breakfast.
In Moncton and other urban areas, a unique English-French creole language known as chiaque is spoken. It is considered to be "bad French" by French speakers and "bad English" by English speakers but it is popular with the youth. Some effort is being made to revive chiaque with books in chiaque being published and chiaque organizations being formed.
New Brunswick has great beaches and lovers of the ocean will want to witness the world’s highest tides, which occur on the Bay of Fundy . The bay is surrounded by sandstone cliffs and warm sandy beaches. It is home to Fundy National Park and Grand Manan Island. Here the world’s highesttides rise and fall the height of a four storey building, twice a day, every day. There is Manitoba bed and breakfast accommodation in the vicinity. New Brunswick has no fewer than three coastlines on Chaleur Bay, the Northumberland Strait and the Bay of Fundy. Routes along these coasts are a good introduction to the area, opening up a vista of dramatic rocks. One of these is Hopewell Cape. Everywhere the sea is dotted with islands. Here nature pursues her uninterrupted
agenda affording glimpses of unusual fauna, birds and wildlife to the bed and breakfast tourist. Millions of flowers cover the land during the blooming season, carpeting the province in color.
Situated to the south is the charming town of St. Andrews, which has the distinction of being one of Canada's oldest seaside resort towns. Moncton is a major commercial center for Atlantic Canada. The longest covered bridge in the world is at Hartland, northwest of Fredericton, the picturesque capital. Fredericton offers dozens of galleries and art museums. Saint John is New Brunswick's largest city and a popular port of call for cruise liners.
