Eureka Springs bed and breakfast
Eureka Springs bed and breakfast visitors are generally as unique as this extraordinary town. This famous Victorian village is located in the Ozark mountains of northwest Arkansas. B&B visitors are never surprised to learn that the settlement was named on of America’s Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The entire town of Eureka Springs, of Carroll County, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is certainly one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arkansas.
This is a unique, unspoiled Victorian village, filled with Victorian-style cottages and manor houses. Several bed and breakfast businesses, lodges and inns are housed in these historical buildings. It is an intriguing place to walk around for Eureka Springs is the only city in North America where none of the streets meet at right angles. It also has a staircase unconnected to any of the streets that is considered to be a street by the UPS, which is another rarity. The old downtown of Eureka Springs is alpine in its appearance. The buildings are constructed mainly of local stone and are built along streets that follow the contours of the land, rising and falling with the topography in a five-mile long loop. Another unusual feature is that some buildings have street level entrances on more than one floor. For instance, the Catholic Church in Eureka Springs boasts a street level entrance in its bell tower. Shopping in Eureka Springs is a favorite activity of bed and breakfast, lodge and inn tourists. They can travel by trolley or just stroll in the town. There are boutiques, craft shops, antique stores and art galleries. Of course there are coffee shops and sidewalk cafes too. The city is dominated by a 7-story, 2 million pound white statue of Jesus Christ, which is known as the Christ of the Ozarks. It is visible from most parts. In the vicinity are lakes and river; the statue is visible from there too.
Eureka Springs bed and breakfast visitors often ask about the town’s history. Well, it had a reputation as a tourist destination with healing springs well before the first pioneers reached Arkansas. Several Native American legends tell of the healing properties of the springs. The healing properties of these springs gained a reputation, and when Europeans arrived Eureka Springs was transformed into a flourishing city, spa, inn, lodge and tourist destination. Today Eureka Springs is the home to a large number of unique events for which bed and breakfast reservations should be made well in advance. The town is a very popular destination for motorcyclists, ufologists, artists, poets, gays, and sculptors from around the world.
